342. Aurore

Dir. Luc Dionne

After the sudden death of her mother, Aurore Gagnon is abused by her disturbed step-mother as her town remains silent.

MY TAKE

The true and tragic story of Aurore Gagnon is a famous cautionary tale in Quebec, but virtually unknown in the rest of Canada. This retelling of the inaction and subsequent mistrust of the Catholic Church, however, is only culturally specific in legacy. Most audiences will relate to a defenseless child and dangers of an uninvolved community, but will also love to hate the evil step mother brought to life by Hélène Bourgeois Leclerc. But come on, can you really blame the new mom for being so angry, having to measure up to the angelic Stéphanie Lapointe?

  1. Aurore Gagnon was the distant cousin of KREX TV man, Maurice R. “Frenchie” Gagnon!
